Bloomington, IN – April 9, 2002. — Megaputer Intelligence Inc. announced the release of PolyAnalyst 4.5, the world’s first Data Mining application capable of efficiently analyzing both structured data and text within a single powerful system.
Based on years of delivering analytical data and text mining solutions, Megaputer continues to prove its leadership in the analytical software market by merging its technologies into a single platform to serve a new growing demand in the marketplace. The implementation of text mining capabilities empowers users of PolyAnalyst 4.5 to address new classes of tasks such as the analysis of customer correspondence, insurance claims, and call center notes. PolyAnalyst provides tools for semantic analysis, both supervised and unsupervised, of unstructured natural language text held in relational databases.
“Over 80% of an organization’s knowledge is scattered through unstructured and semi-structured data. In order to gain a real competitive advantage today companies must be able to analyze all available content,” says Yuri Slynko, Megaputer Deputy Director of R&D.
The provided text mining capabilities are enriched by a large selection of machine learning algorithms available in PolyAnalyst. Recently added algorithms, Decision Forest, Link Analysis, and Transactional Basket Analysis, further enhance the vast functionality of the system and enable users to solve business tasks ranging from customer survey analysis, to fraud detection, and to cross-sell analysis.
“Text mining and link analysis capabilities of PolyAnalyst provide Liberty Mutual Research Center with an invaluable tool for the analysis of large volumes of natural language notes recorded by claim processing operators,” says Simon Matz, Research Analyst, Liberty Mutual Research Center. “Utilizing PolyAnalyst to identify the major occupational hazards and their resulting injuries, Liberty Mutual analysts can reduce injury risks and help people live safer, more secure lives.”
PolyAnalyst version 4.5 provides numerous new features including:
- Text Mining capabilities for analyzing natural language fields in relational databases.
- Link Analysis capabilities for better visualization of relationships between attributes.
- Transactional Basket Analysis algorithm for processing transactional data as encountered in retailing and fraud detection applications.
- Decision Forest algorithm for efficient classification of records to multiple categories.
- Ability to apply the results of predictive modeling to data in any external system through a standard OLE DB link established using a simple point-and-click interface.
“PolyAnalyst has made a significant step forward in business intelligence by combining structured and unstructured data mining capabilities in a single tool,” says Dan Sullivan, Chief Technology Officer of Redmont Corporation and the author of the book Document Warehousing and Text Mining. “Free form text is often used in database applications to document essential information that does not easily fit into structured attributes. With PolyAnalyst, companies will have access to critical information that has thus far been inaccessible through standard data mining applications.”
PolyAnalyst availability: standalone or client/server. Integrators can utilize the SDK of PolyAnalyst DCOM components to build customized solutions. A free fully functional evaluation copy of the system, supplemented by hands-on industry case studies, is available for downloading from the Megaputer website.
PolyAnalyst is used by more than 300 customers worldwide including Siemens, Chase Manhattan, McKinsey, DuPont, 3M, Allstate Insurance, Carlson Marketing, Mars Corporation, Lockheed Martin, The US Navy, ALKA Insurance, DynCorp, National Cancer Institute, West Group, Taco Bell, ICICI Bank, KPN Research, and France Telecom to name a few.
